Social protection system had developed in order to ensure the protection of the citizens, but also to maintain the economic growth of the country. The importance of the pension system is given by its social purpose, which is poverty alleviation, adequacy of income and consumption smoothing at retirement. In countries of Central and Eastern Europe, the income inequalities – main cause of poverty, had increased with the economic development. The aim of this paper is to show the changes brought to Romanian public pension system by the Law no. 127/2019 regarding the provided benefits vis-à-vis of social inequalities existing among elderly people.

Abstract Population and the quality of labor force are the “strengths” features’ that ensure socio-economic development of a country. The last decades can be characterized as a transitional period, in which countries of European Union and especially the countries of Central and Eastern Europe are facing a demographic decline. The continuous sample of working lives: Improving its representativeness

This paper studies the representativeness of the Continuous Sample of Working Lives (CSWL), a set of anonymized microdata containing information on individuals from Spanish Social Security records. We examine several CSWL waves (2005–2013) and show that it is not representative for the population with a pension income. We then develop a methodology to draw a large dataset from the CSWL that is much more representative of the retired population in terms of pension type, gender and age. This procedure also makes it possible for users to choose between goodness of fit and subsample size.
